Screens

Installing a garage door screen makes it easier for you to work in your garage.

Screens allow fresh air into your garage, where you may need it the most. If you're painting or using toxic chemicals, a garage door screen may literally be a life saver.

Here are some awesome benefits to installing a garage door screen:

  • Resilient
  • Long lasting
  • Easy to install

Most garage door screens do not dent, crease or unravel. They are resilient to most climates, rain, snow, salt air and industrial fumes.

You can work in the garage with the garage door open, without worrying about flying bugs and blowing debris. These annoying pests and particles can ruin a fresh paint job.

Installation

A garage door screen is easy to install yourself, and you can roll them up when you're finished. Double stitched screens with zippers, make it easy to come in & out of the garage.

Screens are made with hook and loop material for simple installation. You really don’t need any professional instruction to put up a garage door screen.

Here are some fast tool tips for installing a garage door screen:

  • Hammer
  • Step Ladder
  • 7/8 roofing nails
  • Hoop & loop material

Hoop and loop material will most likely come with your screen, as will the roofing nails. If they don’t come with the screen however, they are easy to find at any quality hardware store.

When you’re installing screens, remember to also install the locks. Most screens come with regular or automatic locks to add security to your garage.

Screen Types

Garage door screens come in many different styles, for all types of garages. You can basically get custom made screens for all garages.

Garage door screen systems use bottom or top hanging rollers. The more popular one is the top hanging roller, since it's easier to use.

Common screens are either:

  • Manual, or
  • Automatic

Commercial garage screens will be more heavy-duty, to prevent thick dust from layering the items inside the garage. The mesh of the screen may be woven steel and may also include a double backer.

Residential garage door screens, used for storing extra vehicles or tools, will be a more basic design. A light mesh made of vinyl may be all that’s needed.

Screens are also woven with fiberglass yarn, which is coated with a protective material. It will keep out insects any time of the day and comes in a variety of colors.

Rollup screens shouldn’t interfere with garage door function. They also work well on porches, boats, RV’s, and more. They’re relatively cheap, considering all of the ways you can use them.
